The American Legion Riders at OUR Post 23
The American Legion Legacy Run in one of the largest multistage, multi-day, cross-country motorcycle events in the United States. American Legion Riders travel from across the country to join together in unified support. Their current membership is 2.2 million, wartime veterans and they will be stopping at the Bowling Green Post 23 on August 24th, 2016. The Legacy Run will be led by the American Legion National Commander, Dale Barnett of Georgia.

This is a huge event as they will be stopping in Bowling Green for dinner and then spending the night.  The dinner will be served at our post on Dishman Lane.  We will also get a chance to meet Bob Sussan who has been a part of every Legacy Run since 2006, and the Virginia Legionnaire is now in his third year as the ride's chief road captain.

300 to 400 riders will travel through Bowling Green as part of a 1,300 mile seven-state journey raising funds for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.  If you would like to volunteer to help with parking, serving, etc. contact Delane Simpson at the post.

Post 23 offers many services including:

  • Free Van Shuttle Service to the Nashville VA on Monday through Thursday using all volunteer van drivers.
  • Trained Service Officers to assist all veterans with VA paperwork, forms, answer your questions, etc.
  • Bingo games 3 nights a week with an all volunteer staff.
  • We have a group that visit all the veterans living in local nursing homes on a monthly basis.
  • Monthly meetings are a great time to get together with your old friends and meet new ones.  Nine months out of the year we have Dinner Meetings at no charge to paid up members and their spouses. (We do NOT meet in November or December and our May meeting is held on Memorial day with a lunch served afterwards.)
  • And much, much more.  If you want to be a part of a true veteran's service organization, Post 23 is the place to be.  Come out and join us and the dues are only $37.00 per year.
Helping Homeless Veterans
American Legion Post 23, in conjunction with the VA and The Good Deeds Club from Alvaton Elementary School, are now helping homeless veterans find and move into apartments.  We have been involved in placing several men and women into safe, warm facilities that they can now call home.  We also have given them microwave ovens, TV's, and other new and used household items to help them get started with their new beginnings.  If you would like to make a donation to help in this endeavor, see or call Jim Manley, Post 23 Finance Officer.

In the past seven years, Post 23 has given over 2 million dollars back to their community.
